Ideas to finish your basement

Finishing your basement can be a great way to enjoy some of those creature comforts in life. If you’re thinking about finishing your basement, check out these ideas.

Hangout area – Don’t worry about where your kids are and what they are up to. Create a fun place those teenagers are excited to be in and will invite their friends over. You’ll know they are safe and out of trouble.
Theater – Basements are a great place to put your own movie theater. Tie in that wet bar and a popcorn machine for the ultimate experience.
Quality family time – Bring family time home with a fun place to play games together, watch movies, do crafts, catch up with each other and have fun.
Workout room – It’s easier to get those workouts in when it’s just downstairs. This works great in combination with a bathroom downstairs. Go straight from the workout to the shower.
Kids play area – How about those holiday gatherings when everyone is gathered in the kitchen when you’re trying to cook? Why not create a fun atmosphere where the kids can play together.
Library/Office – Give yourself a cozy place to not only store those books but to study, write, or get some work done. You can do some built-in bookcases for that gorgeous look. Add a comfy couch or swinging chair for a quiet place to read your favorite book.
Tray ceilings – This can really open up your  room and give it some interest. Add some crown molding around the edges and rope lighting to give your room that cozy look.
Niches – Don’t just have a long boring wall; recess a niche for an extra eye catcher to display photos or collectibles.
Hidden bookcases – Instead of just a boring door to your furnace room, how about a hidden bookcase door?
Master bedroom – Create an intimate retreat in your own home by adding a fireplace and sitting area in your master bedroom.
It’s all in the details – Add that accent wall. Have fun with stone, reclaimed wood, metal, tiles and color! Don’t be afraid to paint that wall! Many of us didn’t get to design our home from the ground up. The basement is a great place to get to design for yourself! Pick the colors you like; add those personal elements and make it unique.
Sauna – Nowadays, saunas come as full kits that can be placed in your basement more easily than you would think.
Craft room – Create a space that helps you to keep those hobbies easy to work on. When you have space you can leave your projects out, it makes working on them easier and more fun.
Wet bar – Bring the bar experience for neighbors and friends in your own home. Enjoy a drink while you watch the big game.
Guest bedroom – Give your friends and family the deluxe treatment when they come to visit by giving them a private suite to enjoy their stay.
